Carpet Cleaning Tips
Here are a few tips to keep your carpets looking great between cleanings.
Rugs and/or runners -We recommend using rugs and/or runners in your home to prevent a great deal of dirt from getting in your carpet. Cleaning these regularly will help to keep your carpet from collecting the dirt from shoes as people walk on your carpet.
Vacuuming -We reccommend that your carpets are vaccummed weekly, and for heavy traffic areas, bi-weekly. Vacuuming underneith area rugs will remove loose dirt that may have worked through the rugs to your carpet.
Spills -For crusted stains, remove debris using a spoon or dull knife, before following procedures below to blot the stain out.
Be very careful when cleaning spills, although they are easiest to remove before drying, but if your not careful, the staincan easily be embedded instead of removed. The best way to clean a spill before it stains your capet is to "blot" it up. Blotting is not a rubbing motion on the carpet, but rather a dabbing motion. Touch a clean, dry towel to the area spilled to blot up any remaining liquid first.
If blotting did not totally remove the spill or stain, blot using a household carpet cleaner. If a household carpet cleaning solution is not available, you can mix about 1/2 teaspoon of liquid laudry detergent (without bleach) and two cups of cold water to use instead. Apply the cleaning solution on to a clean cloth or towel, white towels allow you to better see what is being removed. Blot the area with the carpet cleaning solution up to three times, let the area dry before trying again. If your carpets are treated with carpet protector, it will seal the carpet to resist the stain from setting. This makes it much easier to remove stains before they set and become a problem.
